I left school at 17 and started working for an Insurance Broker in Theale – went on to work at The Provincial Insurance Company in Reading (now called Axa) to try my hand at Underwriting, rather than Broking – decided that I much preferred to work as a Broker, dealing with the public. I’ve worked at:
- Kennet Insurance Brokers in Thatcham from 1989-1991
- J Ulph and Co Newbury 1991 – 1993
- Bennets Commercial from 1993 – 2001
- 2001 until present – working for the Thomas Gray Partnership Ltd
About My Business
I am predominantly a commercial insurance broker – doing all types of commercial insurance, ranging from offices, shops, restaurants, property, both commercial and residential – blocks of flats. Motor Trade, Farm, contractors insurances, PI and D &O liability, Group personal accident and travel covers.
We also do connected personal lines insurance for our commercial clients – which consist of Home contents and buildings insurance and private motor insurance.
Why I Joined BNI Bourne
My story was that an existing member invited by boss to BNI. He could not attend the meeting and asked me to go along instead. I really enjoyed the first meeting and could see how BNI could work for us. I took my boss along the following week and joined the next!
Everyone was so friendly and really went out of their way to make me welcome – for me it isn’t just about the business. I really enjoy the training we get.
I really love the people in our chapter and this combination is what motivates me every week.
What BNI has meant for me & my business
I actually joined in February 2015 – I have always been confident enough in myself to see my clients and talk to new clients, however I was never ever good at standing up in a room full of people and talking about myself and business – I now get to do this every week and with the training we are given I feel so much better about myself.
For Our business I feel that I have given my absolute best to BNI and In doing so have been rewarded with over £75,000 worth of new business premium income, let alone the renewals which are also ongoing .
It is a way of marketing myself and The Thomas Gray Partnership, every week in a room full of great businesses.
